About

A small press, kept small on purpose.

Letterpress Mail is a newsletter tool for writers who would rather own the machinery than rent an audience.

Why it exists

A newsletter is a small thing: a draft, a list, a send and the reply that arrives an hour later. Nearly all of the work is the writing, so the tool should stay out of the way of it.

Letterpress Mail is built on three decisions. The draft is plain markdown, so it survives being copied, pasted, committed and moved to another tool. The list lives in your account and leaves as a CSV whenever you ask. And if you charge readers for your work, that arrangement is between you and them — no percentage of it comes to us.

Who it is for

Writers with a hundred readers and a folder of drafts, and small publishers with two thousand subscribers and a back catalogue. If your week ends with an issue going out, the tool is for you.

It is deliberately a writing tool first: the draft, the list and the send are the whole of it, and everything else waits until those three are right.

How it is built

Markdown, not a page builder

What you type is what you keep. Nothing about the draft depends on this editor, or on us, still being here in five years.

The list belongs to the writer

Addresses, names, tags and signup dates leave as cleanly as they arrive, in a file any other tool can read.

Delivery is part of the product

There is no sending service to sign up for and no key to paste to get an issue out of the door. You write it, you send it, it arrives.

Where to go next

The features page walks through the writing, the analytics and the welcome email. The pricing page sets out how far each list size reaches. And the help centre takes the first issue step by step.
